Community MusicWorks is a music education and performance non-profit organization serving inner-city youth and families in Providence, Rhode Island.
We drilled borings and provided a geotechnical report about three years ago, and now it's (finally!!!) under construction. This project required shoring around most of the site and underpinning the adjacent building to facilitate the construction of a basement level. In the video below, you can see the underpinning consisted of a unique system that relied on battered micropiles and soil nails to support the building as we excavated for basement construction. This allowed the new basement wall to be installed inches away from the adjacent building. The last clip showing the formwork for the basement walls is from today.
FR Engineering provided geotechnical support during construction by reviewing contractor submittals, overseeing the pile and soil nail load testing program, and construction observation to ensure what was being built matched the agreed approach. Like all projects, things came up during construction, and we were able to help the team troubleshoot issues to keep construction moving forward and ahead of schedule.
